Here goes…my first post! I figured I would start with a drink, keep it simple. Well, maybe not “simple”, actually, as the ingredients themselves are a bit pricey, but a delicious, strong cocktail! Also, um, it’s clearly more of a metaphorical green – as you can tell, the actual drink is pretty orange. Work with me here.

This drink is based on the “Blond Ambition” – a cocktail from a lovely new speakeasy in NYC’s lower east side called The Nite Cap – except that recipe uses yellow chartreuse as opposed to green. The yellow has a milder, sweeter flavor and less alcohol content. As we only have green chartreuse in our little Brookline apartment that ran us a hefty $50, I wasn’t going to go drop another $50 on yellow chartreuse.

The drink is reminiscent of a Manhattan, without the bitters, with nice herbal notes provided by the green chartreuse.
Oh, and it’s quite pretty, too.
Green With Envy
1 Part Cognac (Remy Martin V.S.O.P.)
1 Part Bourbon (Larceny)
1/2 Part Sweet Vermouth
1/2 Part Green Chartreuse
Stir over ice; strain into martini glasses.
You can have whatever’s left of our bottle of yellow Chartreuse before we leave for Paris! Then you can make both versions 🙂
